CANINE DISTEMPER VACCINE.

This is a modified live virus vaccine.
Vaccination procedure.
Puppies: Vaccination at six to eight weeks, twelve to fourteen weeks and sixteen to eighteen weeks.
Adults: An annual booster vaccination.
Bitches: Vaccination of pregnant bitches with modified live virus vaccine is not recommended. A bitch that has regular annual booster vaccination before pregnancy occurs will produce a high level of antibodies in the first milk (colostrum). Providing the pups suckle soon after birth, they will have a strong temporary immunity.
Modified live measles virus is an alternative to the modified live distemper vaccine-to be given to puppies at six weeks of age. The modified live measles virus vaccine has been used for many years with variable degrees of success. This vaccine is not recommended for use in puppies over sixteen weeks of age and should not be used in breeding bitches.
If the live measles virus vaccine is used at six weeks of age, it should be followed by the modified live distemper virus vaccine at twelve and sixteen weeks of age to provide good immunity against the distemper virus.
